Welcome to the Northwoods Chapter Ninety-Ninety Web site!
The
Northwoods Chapter of the Ninety-Nines began September 9, 2006; its
birthplace was Houghton,Michigan.
The
purpose of a Northwoods Chapter of the national organization was to
provide a closer relationship among women pilots in the Upper Peninsula of
Michigan, Northern Wisconsin and Canada and to further aviation in general.
Sixteen women became Charter Members of the Northwoods Chapter.
The
chapter is in it’s infancy but our membership is highly motivated to promote
aviation and fellowship. We already have plans to paint several
Compass Roses in the area. Our membership consists of Private Pilots,
Future Women Pilots as well as Instructors. Our talents and
specialties will surface as we get to know one another.
The Northwoods Chapter is committed to
promoting aviation and hopes to do so through such projects as Aerospace
Education and the Air Bear Program. Members may visit local schools and
encourage students to remain in school and to consider learning to fly. The
chapter also wants to share their enthusiasm for flying with the general
public thorough various displays at malls and airshows. The sky is the
limit.
The Ninety-Nines recognize that women learning
to fly have different needs. Through the Future Woman Pilot (FWP) Program
students are encouraged when they are frustrated and recognized for their
achievements. Ninety-Nines are encouraged to be a Guardian Angel for one of
our FWPs.
The design at the top of the page includes the
mighty pine tree, signifying the rugged “Northwoods”, which we all call
home.
An airplane flies symbolizing the connection that we
all have, aviation. The logo is a symbol
of experiencing new things; flying higher, faster; daring to be different;
bringing persistence, and sharing with others our common passion of flying.
The Northwoods Chapter is comprised of
women from all walks of life who love to fly and encourage others to make
their dreams come true and enjoy the freedom of flight.
